Learn how to get your team up and running with FieldEdge

Due to the limitations that our tight integration with NationBuilder imposes, understanding how teams work and how FE + NB can be customized to suit your needs, can be a little tricky. We do our best to demystify it as much as possible.

FieldEdge is designed to work exclusively with NationBuilder and heavily relies on its native login system to allow direct data sync between your nation and your teams' devices. This means each person on your FieldEdge Team will require a NationBuilder login with control panel access or be set up as an Accounteless user.

FieldEdge users can fall into 3 different buckets. Each type comes with unique functionality and is suitable for different roles in your campaign.

Each user type can have a separate App Customization experience.

Accountless login is not available on all plans

Users Types

We recommend reviewing the 3 user types below to understand which best fits your needs:

Default (NationBuilder)

For users with a NationBuilder login who don’t need access to the FieldEdge HQ Dashboard

  • Anyone with a login to your Nation (and permission set that meets our minimum requirements) can log in to FieldEdge and will be considered a Default User.

  • Their access to Contacts will be influenced by their NationBuilder permission set.

  • Does not need to be added or invited outside of NationBuilder.

  • Lists are assigned in NationBuilder – restricting access can be nuanced and cumbersome.

  • The same list cannot be assigned to multiple users simultaneously.

Campaign Manager

For users who need access to the FieldEdge HQ Dashboard and optionally the mobile app with their NationBuilder login

  • To login to the mobile app: requires a NationBuilder login with a permission set that meets our minimum requirements (the Admin permission set meets these requirements by default) to log in to the mobile app.

  • Needs to be invited by another Campaign Manager.

  • Best for regular, trusted staff with the Admin permission set in NationBuilder

Accountless

For users without a NationBuilder account

  • User will sign in with their mobile number.

  • Needs to be added by a Campaign Manager in FieldEdge HQ Dashboard.

  • Best for volunteers who should have a heavily filtered experience.

  • Lists are assigned via NB Dashboard.

  • The same list can be assigned to multiple users simultaneously.

  • Not available on all plans.

Deciding which User Type is right for each of your user types

Adding Users

Default User

  1. Ensure your Permission Sets are compatible with FieldEdge.

  2. If you haven't done so already, invite your users to NationBuilder.

  3. Optionally, you can send them an SMS with the mobile app download link, from the HQ Dashboard.

Campaign Manager

To upgrade someone from a Default User to a Campaign Manager (thereby granting them access to FieldEdge HQ Dashboard, and providing them with any Campaign Manager-specific customization in the mobile app):

  1. Ensure your Permission Sets are compatible with FieldEdge. The Admin permission set is compatible by default. Other permissions will need to be customized.

  2. Send them an invite via the FieldEdge HQ Dashboard Optionally, you can send them an SMS with the mobile app download link at the same time.

Note that Campaign Managers can be invited and log in to the FieldEdge HQ Dashboard using only their email address (NB account not required) – this can be useful for giving finance teams access to download invoices.

Accountless User^

  1. Add the user as an Accountless user, using their mobile phone number via the FieldEdge HQ Dashboard
