# Using surveys as scripts

Learn how to integrate outreach scripts and talking points

FieldEdge allows you to create scripts or talking points that staff and volunteers can follow during outreach conversations.

Instead of using a separate document, the script can be built directly into a survey so users can follow prompts and record responses in the same place. This helps keep conversations consistent while capturing useful information from each interaction.

As users move through the survey, they can follow the talking points and record answers. Responses are saved directly to the contact's record in NationBuilder.

### Creating a script

Build your script with the Survey Builder in FieldEdge HQ:

1. Create a new survey, or open an existing one, under **Surveys** in HQ. The **Door knock** and **Phone bank** templates already include an opening script to get you started.
2. Select **Add question**, then choose **Script / talking points** to add text the canvasser reads aloud.
3. Add questions after each section of your script to record answers.
4. To give canvassers a response for a particular answer, select the speech bubble next to the answer and fill in **Talking point when chosen**.
5. Use the phone preview to read through the conversation as a canvasser would, then publish to NationBuilder.
